Rashid Al-Daif is a highly influential Lebanese novelist, poet, and academic whose works have been translated into over nine languages. He is renowned for a deceptively simple, often darkly comedic and highly confessional narrative style that fearlessly dismantles social taboos surrounding sexuality, masculinity, and the trauma of the Lebanese Civil War. Frequently blurring the lines between autofiction and imagination, his novel Planks (Alwah) won the Lebanese Ministry of Culture Award for the Novel in 2018. In recognition of his vast, revolutionary contribution to the Arabic narrative—which includes classics like Dear Mr. Kawabata and the IPAF-longlisted Paving the Sea (Tableet Al-Bahr)—he was honored with the prestigious Mohamed Zafzaf Prize for Arabic Novel in 2023.
