Apartment on the West Bank

Mysterious and compelling circumstances force three women—a pediatrician, a university professor, and a historian—to cohabitate in an apartment on the West Bank of the Nile in Luxor. Each carries a secret that compels them to live together as they attempt to escape their respective personal and existential predicaments. The novel’s title is a clever play on words; while it literally refers to the West Bank of the Nile in Luxor, it evokes the more globally recognized “West Bank,” suggesting that the characters’ personal confinements and struggles for freedom mirror broader political and social entrapments.
