Abdelkarim Jouiti

An acclaimed Moroccan novelist, essayist, and translator. Jouiti is widely celebrated as one of the most prominent and authoritative chroniclers of Moroccan social history, power dynamics, and collective identity. He is the recipient of the Morocco Book Award (Prix du Maroc du Livre) for his monumental epic The Moroccans (Al-Maghariba), which was also longlisted for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction 2017. He is also a laureate of the Moroccan Writers’ Union Award (1991). Author of several landmark works—including Night of the Sun, Ululations of Death, Yellow Morella Flower, Brigade of Ruin, and The Four Days’ Revolution—Jouiti is renowned for his dark satirical wit, razor-sharp prose, and unflinching philosophical excavations of authoritarianism and Moroccan cultural memory.
