An acclaimed Lebanese novelist and financial economist born in Beirut in 1983, Mohamed Tarzi is recognized as one of the most versatile and compelling voices in contemporary Arabic literature. Holding degrees in Law and Financial Economics from SOAS University of London, Tarzi’s international work across East Africa inspired his celebrated historical novels exploring the centuries-old Arab heritage in Zanzibar and Mozambique. He is the author of nine acclaimed novels spanning historical fiction, cultural heritage, and contemporary social realism. Tarzi is the winner of the Naguib Mahfouz Medal for Literature (2024) and the Katara Prize for Arabic Novel (2024) for Muted Microphone, as well as the Ghassan Kanafani Novel Prize (2017) and the Toufiq Bakkar Prize (2018). His works have been longlisted for the Sheikh Zayed Book Award six times, and he has held prestigious international writer residencies in New York and Italy.
