Another History of Sadness

This monumental historical novel is set during the time of the Urabi Revolt and the British occupation of Egypt in 1882. It tells the story of “Fathallah,” a simple peasant who joins Urabi’s ranks, leaving behind his wife, who is pregnant with their son, “Mansour.” The father’s absence stretches on, and the characters’ fates intertwine across time, as the author connects the past and present, showing how injustice and oppression repeat throughout history.
