An acclaimed Emirati novelist, historian, and cultural journalist. Holding a degree in history, she is widely recognized as one of the most prominent chroniclers of Arabian Gulf social heritage, folklore, and female emancipation. Al-Kamali made literary history as the first Emirati author to be shortlisted for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction for her masterwork Rose’s Diary (2022, translated into English by Chip Rossetti for ELF Publishing). She is also the recipient of the Sharjah International Book Fair Award for Best Emirati Creative Novel (2018) for The Statue of Dalma and the Al Owais Award for Creativity (2015) for The Sultanate of Hormuz. Renowned for her lyrical archival excavation, psychological realism, and vivid atmospheric recreation of pre-oil Gulf society, Al-Kamali’s fiction masterfully explores the hidden inner lives, intellectual hunger, and quiet defiance of women navigating rigid patriarchal traditions.
