An acclaimed Syrian novelist, journalist, and translator born in Damascus and currently based in London. The daughter of the legendary Syrian playwright Saadallah Wannous, she studied French Literature at Damascus University and the Sorbonne. Wannous was selected as one of the prestigious Beirut39 (the thirty-nine most promising Arab writers under forty) and achieved widespread international acclaim when her landmark novel The Frightened Ones was shortlisted for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction (The Arab Booker) in 2018 and translated into numerous global languages. Renowned for her fearless psychological depth, introspective precision, and acute dissection of war trauma, fear, and displacement, she is also the author of Details, The Chair, and The Family That Swallowed Its Men.
