Aisha Basry

An acclaimed Moroccan novelist, poet, and short-story writer. Holding a degree in Arabic Literature from Mohammed V University in Rabat, Basry is recognized as one of the most prominent and innovative voices in contemporary Maghrebi literature. She is the recipient of prestigious international honors, including the Sharjah International Book Fair Award for Best Arabic Novel (2018) for Life Without Me, the Kateb Yacine International Novel Prize (2016) for Granddaughters of Greta Garbo, and the Simone Landry Prize for Women’s Poetry in Paris (2017). Author of celebrated novels—including Silk Nights, Like a Corpse in a Detective Novel, and A Man Named Desire—her writings have been widely translated into French, Spanish, Italian, Catalan, Turkish, and English.
