Chokri Mabkhout

An acclaimed Tunisian novelist, literary critic, and academic. A former president of Manouba University and professor of Arabic literature and linguistics, Mabkhout is recognized as one of the most prominent intellectuals and novelists in the contemporary Arab world. He achieved widespread international acclaim when his debut novel, The Italian (Al-Talyani), won the International Prize for Arabic Fiction 2015 and the Golden Comar Prize. In 2018, he was awarded the King Faisal International Prize for Arabic Language and Literature for his pioneering studies on Arabic autobiography. Author of celebrated novels and story collections-including Baganda, Madame President, The Loser’s Mirror, Mr. Dean in His Fortress, and The Fragrant Biography of the Leader-Mabkhout is renowned for his razor-sharp political satire, sociological precision, and fearless dissection of modern Arab power dynamics and collective delusions.
