Asmaa El-Sheikh

An Egyptian novelist, short-story writer, and medical doctor born in Alexandria in 1988. A graduate of the Faculty of Medicine, she made her literary debut with the novel Selene Café (developed within the prestigious Najwa Barakat Creative Writing Workshop) and the short story collection Behind the Scenes of the City. She is the winner of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Award for Young Creators in the Narrative/Novel category for The Colony. Fusing clinical observation, social dissection, and atmospheric depth, El-Sheikh’s work fearlessly examines the friction between urban margins and city centers, female ambition, and human resilience under challenging socio-economic conditions.
