Hilal Chouman

An acclaimed Lebanese novelist and writer and currently based in Toronto. Recognized as one of the most vital literary voices of Lebanon’s post-war generation, Chouman holds a Master’s degree in Satellite Communications Engineering and is the author of five celebrated novels—including Stories of Sleep, Napolitana, Once Upon a Time, Tomorrow, and Limbo Beirut, which was translated into English and nominated for both the PEN Translation Prize and the Saif Ghobash Banipal Prize (2017). Renowned for his adventurous narrative forms, quiet psychological realism, and groundbreaking, sensitive portrayals of queer life, exile, and memory in the contemporary Arab world, Chouman’s fiction masterfully examines the complex search for belonging across fragmented borders.
