Habib Selmi

An acclaimed Tunisian novelist, short-story writer, and academic born in Al-Ala and based in Paris. He is a three-time shortlisted author for the prestigious International Prize for Arabic Fiction for his celebrated novels The Scents of Marie-Claire (2009), The Women of Al-Basatin (2012), and Longing for the Woman Next Door (2021). Selmi is also the recipient of the Katara Prize for Arabic Novel (2021) and the Blue Metropolis Literary Award in Canada. Renowned for his understated prose, microscopic realism, and nuanced psychological exploration of human relationships, class divides, and immigrant identity, his widely translated novels have established him as one of the most distinguished and influential masters of modern Maghrebi literature.
