Without a Last Chapter

A CONCEPTUALLY BRILLIANT DEBUT NOVEL & HYPNOTIC LITERARY PUZZLE BY SAMAR ALI. How much of what we remember actually happened, and how much is merely the heart’s exquisite self-defense? In Without a Last Chapter, Samar Ali constructs a hypnotic literary puzzle narrated by Salma. Composed of forty-four mosaic-like chapters that can be read in any order, the story transitions seamlessly across sixty years (1962–2022) and multiple continents-from Cairo and the mystical shrines of Upper Egypt to Madrid, Munich, and Paris. Walking a tightrope between dreams, reality, and Sufi mysticism, Salma’s memories of lost love, grief, ancient deities, and phantom friends blur into a haunting search for self. Samar Ali delivers an exquisite, atmospheric masterpiece that challenges the very nature of truth, memory, and the quiet mysteries of the human soul.

Samar Ali

An Egyptian dentist, poet, storyteller, and novelist born in Madrid and based in Cairo. A dentistry graduate from Ain Shams University and the daughter of the late renowned Egyptian scholar and translator Dr. Ali El-Menoufy, she initially established her literary presence with two poetry collections written in English: Tannoura (2009) and La Cantadora (2014). Her debut Arabic novel, Without a Last Chapter (2024, Diwan Publishing), earned widespread critical acclaim for its innovative non-linear structure, psychological depth, and seamless integration of Sufi mysticism, Pharaonic mythology, and the complexities of memory.
